Michel Batlle

Michel Batlle’s original Catalan by his father, a political refugee from the Spanish Civil War. It’s from 1964, he made his first abstract paintings and exhibitions.

In 1966-1967, he created his first experimental music, concrete and electroacoustic (after the adventure of rockfrom the early 1960s). He is the creator in 1966 of the “Psychophysiographie” (relations between body and mind led all graphic means, sort of scientific sham producing imaginary anatomies by which he mixes art and the body).

From 1966 to 1969 he produced engravings on radiographs and painted pictures. In 1970 he abandoned the abstraction for a new expressionistic figuration.

From 1971-1975, he practices the performance-painting and land art as a critical parody of the new market of international art. In the early 1980s he founded the journal South Axis makes discover new figurations and English sculpture. His art is close to the transavantgarde. Thereafter, he will come off of all current, continuing a more marginal and implement humanist with his series of “cultural wars”. The end of the century saw the return to one subject of the face and body. Since 2000, Michel Batlle is divided between his workshops in Revel in the Toulouse region and Agadez in the Sahara in northern Niger.
